AN ACCRINGTON man has draped his home in St George’s flags to show his support for his country.

Catering manager Joe Flannery began his Jubilee weekend on Thursday by hoisting ten foot by six foot flags around his Whinney Hill Estate home with friends and neighbours.

His efforts saw him chosen as the most dedicated England fan in the UK by celebrity judge Gareth Southgate in a competition.

He has won an all-expenses paid VIP trip to see England play Sweden next month as a result thanks to Carlsburg.

The footballer was impressed by Joe’s plans to surround his home with over 25 St George’s flags of varying sizes.

The 37-year-old thanked friends and neighbours for helping out, but said the main credit belonged to girlfriend Mel Tregartha for letting him deck out the family home.

He said: “I’m just reallly grateful to Mel for letting me do this and keep the flags up for 24 hours.

“I’ve taken them down because the wind picked up, but I will be getting them out for all the special occasions coming up over the summer. It’s really created a bit of community spirit in the street, because everyone stopped to chat and have a look. A lot of people have been taking photographs too.”

In spite of claiming his prize tickets yesterday, Joe plans to put up the flags again this weekend to mark the Queen’s Diamon Jubilee at the Sherwood Way home he shares with Mel, 40, their baby son Hendrix and Mel’s children Courtney, 16, Lewis 14, and Caitlin, eight.

Dharmesh Rhana at Carlsberg said: “This summer’s tournament in Poland and the Ukraine is already a sell out, so the Carlsberg Fan Challenge gives England supporters the opportunity to watch England in style this summer.”
