A POLICE officer is to stand trial in November accused of causing the death of 26-year-old woman by driving carelessly while over the alcohol limit.

PC Brendan Buggie, 38, of Rochdale Road, Edenfield, appeared before a judge at Bradford Crown Court yesterday to face the charge which arises from the death of Justyna Stanczak in December last year.

The 26-year-old was a passenger in a Toyota Celica being driven by Buggie which collided with a parked van on Manchester Road, Ramsbottom.

She died later in hospital.

Buggie, who is a Greater Manchester Police tactical aid unit officer, formally entered a not guilty to the causing death by careless driving charge during a brief hearing.
