A MAN who suffered from gambling and alcohol addiction was found dead in the Ranken Arms car park at Hoddlesden.

Shaun Harrop, 47, was found next to his car at the rear of the Queen Street pub with cable ties around his neck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

He was found on Sunday, February 4, lying face-down in the snow by friend Jason Hall.

Mr Harrop, who was three-and-a-half times over the drink drive limit, had been drinking at the pub the previous evening.

The father-of-two had been suffering marital difficulties with wife Wendy, from whom he had separated in February 2011.

It was heard that he had tried to kill himself four years earlier using cable ties.

The coroner’s court heard how Mr Harrop regularly sent threatening texts to his wife and had been texting her hours before his death.

Police found letters addressed to his wife, sister and two sons on the dashboard of the car.

Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley coroner Michael Singleton, said: “Shaun Harrop applied cable ties to his neck to bring about his own demise.
