NOISY neighbours have been warned their property could be seized if they continue to make residents’ lives a misery.

Councils across East Lancashire have pledged to continue seizing stereos, radios, televison and even musical instruments like drum kits in a campaign to keep the borough as peaceful as possible.

Bosses at Hyndburn Council said they are dedicated to hunting down persistent offenders.

Crackdowns have also been launched in Pendle and a weekend scheme has been launched ‘the Pennine Night Time Noise Service’, which is a partnership between Pendle, Burnley, Hyndburn, Rossendale, and Blackburn with Darwen Councils.

Hyndburn Council deputy leader Clare Pritchard said: “Through the council, offenders can receive an early wake up call to confiscate any equipment capable of amplified sound.

“Confiscated items have included televisions, stereos, radios and computers. It can also include instruments such as drum kits and guitars.

“By the time officers go in and seize equipment, we have already tried several times to solve the problem informally.

“Unfortunately some people think it’s their right to play music or the TV as loud as they want. If people persist in causing a problem and we have the evidence, we will seize the items.

“Our message is that noise can cause disruption and distress to everyone so please consider others and don’t become a noisy neighbour; otherwise the next knock on the door could be us.”
