A TEENAGER who was found dead near Rossendale Golf Club was a ‘happy character’ who was ‘always smiling’, an inquest heard.

Jordan Colville, 18, of Dean Road, Helmshore, who was known by the nickname Glen, was found hanging close to a viaduct on December 30.

The previous day, the former Haslingden High pupil had told his friend Jordan Love, with whom he shared a static caravan, that he was going to a nearby shop to buy cigarettes and washing up liquid, but he did not return.

Jordan’s mother Lisa Greenwood told a hearing at Burnley Magistrates’ Court that Jordan had lost his job in October and had minor money worries.

But he was looking forward to starting a new job as a kitchen fitter.

He was also excited about a forthcoming birthday trip to Chill Factor and was a passionate about free running and rollerblading.

She said: “I can’t offer any explanation for this, nothing could have brought him to do this.

“He was always laughing and smiling, the life and soul of the party.”

Jordan’s housemate of 10 months, Jordan Love, said his friend had never expressed any worries to him and seemed happy as they made plans for a New Year’s Eve party.

However, he immediately became concerned when Jordan didn’t return and contacted his family the following day.

The inquest heard that although the shop was just ‘two minutes away’, the golf club was a ten minute bus journey and then a substantial walk away from his home.

Recording a narrative verdict, Burnley coroner Richard Taylor said the teenager’s death was a ‘very unusual set of circumstances’.

He added: “There is no evidence that Jordan ever intended to end his life. No note, no previous history of depression. He had never given any indication of any intention to harm himself.

“Sadly no one will ever be able to understand what happened.”
