A 23-year-old man became abusive and threatening when his ex-girlfriend refused to give him money he claimed he was owed.

Blackburn magistrates heard that when the girl’s mother got involved, Andrew Pickup turned his attentions to her car and caused nearly £700 worth of damage.

Pickup, of Heaton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging a car belonging to Julie Hammond.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said after the doorstep confrontation Pickup turned to walk away but instead started kicking the side of the car.

He ripped off a wing mirror and then started punching the bonnet.

As he left he said: “I will be back during the night.”

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client apologised for what happened and accepted full responsibility.

“He lost his temper when he wasn’t given the money he was owed,” said Mr Taylor.
