A WOMAN was fined for playing music too loudly in her terrace home.

Louise Simes, 31, of Bevan Place, Nelson, was hit with the charge after failing to turn down the music following a visit from council officers.

She admitted seven counts of breaching a noise abatement notice at Reedley Magistrates Court.

Her next-door neighbour contacted Pendle Council for help with the noise problem earlier this year.

A domestic noise officer went to listen to Simes playing amplified music around 3am on Saturday, February 18.

The following Monday, Simes was served with a noise abatement notice, a legal order requiring her to keep noise at an acceptable level.

But she failed to turn down the volume and, on the afternoon of Sunday March 11, was witnessed playing her music too loudly again, in breach of her noise abatement notice.

In total, she breached the notice seven times in three weeks.

John Heys, domestic noise officer at Pendle Council, said: “It’s just not acceptable for anyone to have to suffer noise nuisance at home.

Ms Simes used a ‘surround sound’ music system that just wasn’t appropriate for her terrace property.

“This case shows that anyone who keeps flouting noise laws can – and do – end up in court.”

Philip Mousdale, director of services and deputy chief executive, said: “This prosecution is another success of the night-time noise service.

“This service offers local people a telephone number they can call to report a noise nuisance as it happens between 8pm and 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.”
