A YOUNG drinker was pulled over while drink-driving in a tractor through an East Lancashire town centre.

Joshua Kane Greenwood, 22, climbed into the cab of the Massey Ferguson tractor when it was parked on a town centre car park in Clitheroe, Blackburn magistrates heard.

And he managed to drive the J-registration vehicle for a short distance along Lowergate before he was pulled over by a police patrol, at around 12.30am on January 28.

Greenwood, then of The Higher Buck pub, The Square, Waddington, gave a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Greenbank police station for questioning.

Police have confirmed that he managed to get the tractor started but only drove for a short distance before he was apprehended.

Later he was charged with three offences - driving with excess alcohol, taking the tractor without consent and driving the tractor without insurance.

But the taking without consent and no insurance offences were withdrawn by prosecutors when he was in the dock.

Greenwood, now of Fir Trees Barn, Rimmington Lane, Rimmington, near Clitheroe, admitted driving with excess alcohol.

He was fined £240, with a £15 victim surcharge and disqualified from driving for 12 months by magistrates.

He can reduce his motoring ban by three months if he takes an approved driving course.
