A MAN caught stealing from Marks and Spencer in Blackburn was described in court as a professional shoplifter.

Blackburn magistrates heard Ali Ahmed had travelled from London when he was caught trying to leave the store with £864 of clothing.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Ahmed was already on the Marks and Spencer crime intelligence ‘rogue’s gallery’ and staff monitored his movements as soon as they became aware of his presence.

“He has travelled up from London and targeted Marks and Spencer on this occasion,” said Miss Allan. “His record shows he is a person who goes from place to place in order to steal from shops.”

Ghafar Khan, defending, said Ahmed was on the Marks and Spencer gallery because he had previously stolen from them and not because he was a professional shoplifter.
