A DEER had to be rescued after it got its head stuck in some railings in Blackburn last night.
Firefighters were called to St Steven’s Primary School, in Robinson Street, at around 9pm, where a female roe deer had become lodged in the railings.
Hydraulic equipment was used to free the animal and it is thought it had been stuck for quite some time.
Blackburn crew manager Dave Hilliard said: “We don’t know how it got there, it just got confused and ran across the road and got stuck.
“It was ok before we got there, it was a little bit unhappy and then it said ‘ok, I will let you get me out’.
“Once it was released, we were waiting for a vet but the best option was to release it into the wild.”
The deer was driven about a mile and set free into some woodland.
