ONE of two men involved in a savage attack in which their victim was kicked, punched and was said to have been set upon by a dog, has been jailed for two years.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Andrew Keays received a broken left jaw, smashed left eye socket, cuts and bruises and had to have surgery.

Jailed was Terry Thompson, 27, who had a record of 52 offences.

Thompson, of Hinton Street, and Kevin Mason, 48, of Leyland Road, both Burnley, had admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Mason, said to have punched the victim twice, received a two year community order, with supervision and a 12 week, 7pm to 7am curfew.

Neil Fryman, prosecuting, said that the victim would say neither of the defendants encouraged the use of the dog to injure him.

Mason had denied the use of any wea-pon or a dog.

Richard Taylor, for Thompson, said he did not start the incident.

But he became involved in a significant way.

A third man alleged to have been involved in the beating was last month cleared of involvement by a jury.

But he was sent to prison for nine mon-ths for contempt of court.

Leigh Fullard, 26, of Leyland Road, Burnley, had more than 30 offences on his record.

He was said to have a long history of depression and to have self harmed.
