Aled Jones and Friends | The Sands Centre | Carlisle | Friday, May 25 | 7:30pm

The Sands Centre is proud to announce a very special fundraising concert in aid of Eden Valley Hospice. The popular presenter of BBC1’s Songs of Praise will be performing a varied selection of music, including Rutter's ‘Gaelic Blessing’ with the Carlisle Cathedral Choir.

Aled is possibly the world’s most famous former chorister, so it is a real treat for The Sands Centre to be producing, in-house, such a high profile concert for a local charity close to so many people’s hearts. Carlisle Cathedral Choir will be singing a selection of inspirational music, including two special pieces in celebration of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee: William Byrd’s ‘O Lord Make Thy Servant Elizabeth Our Queen’ and David Bedford’s ‘My God Shield You On Every Step’. Other local performers, including StagedRight Youth Theatre, will also be performing.

Aled Jones, after studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Bristol's Old Vic Theatre School, played Joseph in Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He has performed as Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and played the lead role in Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Aled has a Sunday morning radio show on BBC Radio 2; he presents BBC Radio 3's 'The Choir'; has a chat show on BBC Radio Wales and he has also appeared on Songs of Praise for over 10 years. Aled has recorded 29 albums, selling over 6 million copies, and has released two books 'Aled's Favourite 40 Hymns' and 'Favourite Christmas Carols'.
