A TEAM from Blackburn brewery Thwaites joined in a fundraising walk in memory of a former policewoman.
Surrey Police arranged a Light The Wainwrights sponsored walk after Det Con Heather Cooper died in November.
Sgt Ian Davis of the force wanted to raise money for the 33-year-old’s two children, and came up with the idea of arranging teams to simultaneously complete the 214 Alfred Wainwright peaks and light a lamp at the summit in Heather’s memory.
A team from Thwaites – who brew the ale Wainwright in honour of the fell walking legend who was from Blackburn – joined in the event, climbing High Street, near Ullswater, on Saturday night.
Lee Williams, marketing manager of Thwaites, said: “We wanted to support the walk, firstly as it’s such a great cause and secondly because Thwaites’ Wainwright took its inspiration from Alfred Wainwright, the famous son of Blackburn who of course created these 214 Lakeland fell walks.”
