A VAN has careered off the road and crashed into a speed sign and wall in Burnley.

It is believed that the driver fell ill at the wheel of the white Fiat Scudo van, which then crossed the road.

Police and paramedics are at the scene at the junction of Brunshaw Road and Arncliffe Road, opposite the Tesco Express store.

A 39-year-old female Brunshaw Road resident said: "I heard a crash, looked out of my landing window and saw a white van which looked like it had careered off the road into the lamppost and was embedded next to the wall.

"There was a man on the kerb of Arncliffe Road and he was being attended to by some of the neighbours.

"It appeared to me as if they were trying to rescuitate him.

"A few minutes later the police and paramedics arrived and took over. It was terribly upsetting."
