A ROW has erupted over a photograph taken at a school that has been used in a Pendle Council election candidate’s promotional material.

County Coun Keith Bailey, who is standing for election in the Coates ward on Friday for the Conservatives, has now withdrawn the leaflet and used a different picture.

Coun Bailey said he was under the impression that everybody in the photograph had given permission for it to be used.

But Coun David Whipp, who represents the Liberal Democrats in the Craven ward, said: “Mr Bailey should resign as a governor of the school.

"This is a serious breach of trust in his position as a member of the governing body.

“It would be highly inappropriate for any election candidate to use such a photograph in this way. It is utterly inexcusable for a governor to.”

Coun Bailey said: “At the time the picture was taken I was told that the parents of the children had given their permission for them to be photographed.

“It is common practice in schools for parents who are not comfortable with their children being photographed, to have their child excluded from such photos.

“Councillor Whipp got in touch on Friday and said one of the children’s parents were unhappy with their picture being used, so I stopped distributing it.

“The leaflet was reprinted with a different picture.

“The photo was simply to illustrate a good news story about West Craven High."
