THE secrets of how a nursery in Pendle won the battle with fussy-eating toddlers have been revealed.

Brook Farm Nursery, Kelbrook has launched a cook book called ‘What’s For Tea?’ to help frustrated parents who have battled to get their children to eat healthy foods.

It features everything from risottos and fish dishes to smoothie ice lollies and lemon drizzle cake.

Owners Debbie and Richard Wilson came up with the idea last year after they were repeatedly approached by parents who asked how they managed to get their children to eat food at nursery that they wouldn’t at home.

Debbie said: “The book has 22 recipes with drawings that the children have produced and photographs of the children and the food.

"All the meals are nutritionally balanced, with a lot of vegetables hidden by blending them into sauces. We think that it is important for them to eat well to have a good day.”

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson attended the launch, samples of the food were available tand nursery cook and Alison Durkin was on hand to answer questions about the recipes.

Parent Heidi Gerrard, from Barrowford, whose daughter Phoebe is four, said: “When we are at home I struggle to get her to eat healthy foods but at nursery she always finishes everything on her plate.

“I think the cookbook is a great idea. I’m hoping there will be some handy tips on how to hide vegetables in different dishes. The food always looks fantastic so I’m looking forward to trying out some of the meals at home.”

The book is on sale from Brook Farm Nursery by emailing brookfarm nursery@btconnect.com and costs £10.
