A FORMER worker at Burnley kitchenware manufacturer Prestige has won £5,000 compensation for hearing loss.

Lawyers say the Burnley woman, who has asked not to be named, suffers from a mild noise-induced hearing loss and a moderate degree of tinnitus, after working at the Colne Road factory for more than 20 years.

Manchester-based WE Solicitors lodged a claim for her employment as a press operator, making cutlery and kitchen equipment.

She said she would also undertake wet grinding and welding work next to noisy press machinery.

The case was settled out of court by insurers acting on behalf of the former Prestige site.

Prestige closed in July 1997.
