A NEW community history project will see mementoes, keepsakes and family heirlooms put on display in East Lancashire libraries.

Lancashire County Council is urging people to take their items to the library in May and June as part of its Collecting History Days.

The event has been organised by staff at the Museum of Lancashire, who are on the lookout for objects, photographs and real life stories that bring the county’s proud history to life.

Objects will then be selected will go on display in the People Gallery later this year.

Stephen Miller, Lancashire County Council's outreach officer at the museum, said: “If you have an item with an interesting story attached and would like to see it displayed in our People Gallery, then it would be great if you could bring it to your nearest event.

“Your items don’t have to be valuable, spectacular or even very old — they just have to say something about your life in Lancashire, or perhaps about your family or ancestors.

“We’ve also started a community collection database of all the items brought along, so even if we don’t select your item this time, we can look at it again in the future.

“We would ask people only to bring items that they would be comfortable loaning to the museum.

“We will then contact them at a later date to arrange the loan, if they are still happy to go ahead.” You can drop in at:
