SCHOOL pals of seven-year-old Madison Allan have recorded a song in her memory.

The song, One Promise, has been written by music teacher Jeff Price following the death of the Lower Darwen girl from neuroblastoma cancer on Boxing Day last year.

Mr Price, who also penned a 1989 Comic Relief charity single, said: “When I got home from the funeral I was very glum and my wife suggested I write a new song for Madison.

“It sounded like a good idea to me so I disappeared off into a room for a few hours and played with some ideas.

“I wanted the song to link to charity and to be meaningful for her family and anyone else in the same position. The promise the song refers to is that we’ll always be there for the family.

“The middle-eight, which includes the line ‘I remember when the sun shone for you’ is also quite special because it refers to a magical moment during the funeral where there was bright sunshine, and it seemed like Madison was with us.”

Madison’s family were at the school in Milking Lane, to hear children aged between seven and 11 record the song.

Madison’s mum Samantha broke down in tears during a rehearsal.

She said: “I’m speechless after hearing that. It was angelic. It’s so special that it’s Madison’s friends singing the song and the words are so meaningful.”

Madison’s grandmother, Alison Foster, said: “It’s very touching to hear the song and it’s amazing the school has decided to do this.

“Madison was very musical and loved singing and dancing, so this is a very fitting thing to remember her with.”

The recording has been done for free by Lower Darwen-based Patrick Dixon of Twisted Records.

Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the Maddi’s Butterflies charity which aims to raise money to provide holidays and treats for children with cancer, as well as support for their families.

Headteacher Steven Cumbo said: “Madison touched the lives of everyone at the school and we wanted a lasting legacy to her. We hope the song will raise lots of money. The children are thrilled to be involved in this way of remembering her.”

'One promise'

You know you’re not on your own, and so wherever you go I will always be there henever you need me. You hold my world in your hands, I hope that you understand that I need to be close to show how I love you. And my promise to you is, whatever you do I will always be there for you.

I make One Promise in an ocean of dreams, in an ocean that seems so wide I make One Promise that wherever you are I’ll always be by your side.

Be strong I’ll wipe all your tears, for you I’ll always be near so that you can be sure I’ll be there beside you. And my promise to you Is, whatever you do I will always be there for you.

I remember when the sun shone for you then the angels smiled and the sky turned so blue and I knew right then I’d always be there for you, just for you.
