A TEENAGER who had sex sessions with a schoolgirl and then moved on to another, has been locked up for a year.

Burnley Crown Court heard how ‘immature’ Stuart Spiers, now 19, had been served with a notice under the Child Abduction Act by police, banning him from contact with the first girl. Not long after, he had intercourse with the second victim.

The hearing was told the defendant had been living alone in Accrington and had been on a curfew at the time.

Both the teenagers’ parents called the police. Spiers claimed he had thought the second girl was 16, but she told police she had told him her age.

The defendant had a conviction for ‘detaining a 15-year-old girl in the street’.

Spiers, of Lee Street, Accrington, admitted six counts of sexual activity with a child. He was also given a five-year sexual offences prevention order, prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Sarah Statham, prosecuting, said after the first girl’s parents contacted the police, Spiers was served with the notice on February 10, last year. He then met the second girl in an Accrington park and she told him her age. They had sex last February and the defendant told her she shouldn't tell anyone.

Miss Statham said when the defendant was arrested in March last year. He didn't make any great inquiries into the first girl's age.

Spiers said after he had been spoken to by the police Engage Team, who had served the notice on him, he did know what he had done was wrong.

The court was told the defendant’s behaviour had had a ‘substantial’ effect on the families of both girls.

David Ryan, defending, said Spiers was below average in terms of intellectual ability and had a limited understanding of almost everything.

He said: “This defendant isn't an ordinary adult offender. He is somebody who has had a very difficult and troubled childhood.”
