THE availability of intensive care beds for head injury patients is a nationwide concern, according to the charity Headway.
On Saturday the Lancashire Telegraph reported that father-of-six Bill Brown from Hollin Bridge Street, Blackburn, died after no suitable beds could be found when he fell down stairs.
Luke Griggs, spokesman for Headway – the brain injury association, said: “Tragically, there is a severe and dangerous shortage of neurological services, not just in the North West but across the entire UK.
“The problem is not new; we have long been campaigning for an increase in specialist neurological services.”
