A DOG show, a procession, a talent competition and a BBQ are just some of the activities being planned by a Pendle community to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

A number of community groups in Fence have come together to organise a jam-packed schedule of events to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II, 60 years anniversary during the weekend.

The fun will be kick started with a procession of floats from the Sparrow Hawk pub accompanied by a Pipe Band at noon on Saturday June 2.

Then there will be live music from ‘Fluke’ and a ‘Fence has Got Talent’ competition on Saturday afternoon.

The village will be a wash with activities for the whole weekend and residents are invited to enter their pets into a Scruff’s Dog Show, watch demonstrations by Fence’s Guides and Scouts, take part in a balloon race and tuck into to homemade cakes and food organised by the village hall.

The first day of events will culminate in a black tie event hosted by Fence United at the fence Gate Inn.

The following day there will be a special joint jubilee service hosted by all three of Fence’s churches at Wheatley Lane Methodist Church.

This will be followed by a ‘Songs of Praise’ service.

Member of community action group Fence United, Robin Yerkess said: “The driving force behind all the events and the hard work of Fence United is to bring the local community together.

“The group was formed many years ago by five or so residents who used the Harpers Inn. We hope the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be a big hit with all the residents and succeed in bringing the whole community together to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”
