THE first time eight-year-old Morgan-Lynne Holden-Wright saw her pet kitten was when firefighters pulled her out from a three-inch gap in a kitchen wall.

Morgan-Lynne’s mum Kelly Wright, 26, had bought 12-week-old Suzie on Tuesday morning as a present, and left her in the kitchen of their house in Mona Road, Higher-croft, Blackburn, while she went to pick her daughter up from school.

Kelly said: “When we came back, Suzie had disappeared, and my first thought was that she’d climbed out of the kitchen window I’d left slightly open.

“We looked all over, so we left food outside, hoping she’d come back.

“The next day we heard miaowing, but couldn’t work out where it was coming from. Then as the day went on, the miaowing got worse, and we realised she’d crawled under a tiny gap under the kitchen cupboard, and had got stuck in the cavity wall.

“I was panicking about how to get her out, so I rang my dad and he started drilling holes in the wall. It was drastic, but I didn’t care, I wanted to get Suzie out.

“But we couldn’t get near her, so I ended up ringing for the fire-fighters to come in on Wednesday night. They were knocking loads of bricks out, and we saw that she’d managed to climb all the way from the ground floor to the roof, and was stuck on a little perch in a gap of no more than three inches.”

The crews returned on Thursday morning to drill a hole in the top and bottom of the kitchen wall.

Firefighters Mark Mc-Cracken and Trevor Rackley then managed to get hold of the kitten, and dragged her to safety.

Kelly added: “She hadn’t had anything to eat or drink in three days, but when we got her out, she was fine.

“Morgan-Lynne was excited to finally get hold of her new pet, and since she’s been free, she’s been playing all the time like nothing happened.

“I’ve been to get loads of bricks to repair the damaged walls and seal-ant to block the gap in the kitchen — I’m not allowing this to ever happen again!”
