A 75 YEAR old woman burnt her fingers after she attempted to tackle a blaze in her home.

The woman, who has not been named, threw burning clothes out of her window and into her back yard in Monmouth Road in Blackburn this afternoon at 12.30pm.

The fire started when the woman dropped her cigarette into her wardrobe and the clothes inside set alight.

Dave Hilliard, crew manager, said: “We strongly advise people not to try and put out fires themselves.

“In this situation we would say it is best to close the door to the wardrobe and leave the property as quickly and safely as possible.

“Although the woman has managed to extinguish most of the fire herself she has suffered burnt fingers as a consequence.”

Paramedics attended and the woman was treated at the scene.
