A ROSSENDALE councillor is urging residents to object to plans for a windfarm in Bacup, which would see turbines located less than 100 metres from homes.
Renewable energy company Quiet Revolution Ltd has applied to build 20 five kilowatt turbines at a height of 20.75mtres behind Ashworth farm near The Deerplay pub in Burnley Road, Weir.
The plans come just weeks after councillors threw out plans to build four 34m turbines at Scar End Farm in the same village.
Bacup ward Coun Jimmy Eaton is now urging residents to object to the plans, before the application deadline on April 4.
He said: “Bacup and Weir residents are not going to like this application.
“This application is even more intrusive than the previous one at Scar End Farm, and they wanted to place turbines within 300m from houses. If this application went ahead the turbines would be within a 100m of many homes and that is just not acceptable.
“I urge residents to act now and get their letters of objection into the council on the grounds of disruption to highways and noise nuisance.
“We need to protect our landscape. If you look out over Burnley from Weir you can see the turbine at Cliviger and Padiham, we need to make sure the whole landscape is not blighted by these awful things.”
Residents in Weir formed a protest group to fight the previous application under the name War on Weir Windfarms.
They previously expressed fears about the affect on the appearance of the landscape.
Reports commissioned by the London-based company state their application would raise no issues in relation to highways or noise pollution.
The full plans can be viewed at Rossendale Council’s One Stop Shop, in Lord Street, Rawtenstall.
