A 42-YEAR-OLD man assaulted another driver during a road-rage incident after the two cars collided in Waddington.

Blackburn magistrates heard Andrew John Strange kicked out at the other driver before punching him three or four times.

Strange was told by magistrates it had been a serious assault aggravated by the road-rage circumstances.

The chairman of magistrates said: “Make no mistake if you appear before the court for anything like this in the future your feet won’t touch.”

Strange, of Talbot Bridge, Bashall Eaves, was convicted after a trial of assaulting Stefan Langman.

He was given 200 hours’ unpaid work and made subject to community supervision with an element of anger-management.

He must pay £200 compensation and £775 costs.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Mr Langman overtook Strange as they headed towards Waddington from Clitheroe.

Strange’s vehicle appeared to be drifting towards the centre of the road and Mr Langman sounded his horn to alert the other driver before overtaking.

Miss Allan said: “Strange started sounding his horn and flashing his lights.

"As he was travelling through the village. Mr Langman had cause to apply his brakes and Strange ran into the back if him because he was travelling too closely behind.”

The assault that followed left Mr Langman with a black eye, a cut on his cheek and a graze on his arm.”

Basharat Ditta, defending, said Strange denied he acted in a violent manner but accepted he reacted to the incident.

Mr Ditta said: “He is not a person who would normally react in this way.”
