THREE Rossendale pubs have been recognised by the East Lacashire CAMRA group.

The White Lion, in Rawtenstall has been named Pub of the Season for Spring 2012 after all 200 members of the Rossendale branch of the real ale society recognised the pub’s quality and range of beers.

Rawtenstall Cricket Club was also named as Club of the Season for its outstanding beer quality and its open and friendly atmosphere.

The Riverside, in Rawtenstall, was also handed the title of the most improved pub in the borough as it has helped improve the popularity of real ale in the town over the last 18 months.

Thomas Fishwick, branch secretary of East Lancashire CAMRA Club said: “The landlords of these winning pubs should be very proud of their awards as more than 200 members of CAMRA have voted for them directly.

“Each of these pubs are doing their bit to improve the popularity of real ale in East Lancashire and especially in Rossendale.”

Brent Taylor, the landlord of The White Lion said: “It’s a real honour to win this award again as we do try very hard to have the best possible beers on offer.

“We always try and sell beer produced within a 20 mile radius.

“These awards are some good news for the pub trade as the current economic climate is proving devastating for the pub game.

"Pubs are closing all around us and on a Sunday we are often the only pub open in Rawtenstall.”

East Lancashire CAMRA Club is made up of six different branches including Rossendale.

Each branch will vote for their personal favourites who will then be put forward to be named as East Lancashire’s greatest pub.
