A DAD who left his then-partner with multiple wounds after a sustained knife attack, has been jailed for 16 months.

Paul Greenwood, 37, who was fresh out of jail, had had a cocktail of wine, vodka and cocaine before he set about his victim.

He had been upset when a man she was said to have had a ‘one night stand’ with while he had been in prison turned up, Burnley Crown Court heard.

The hearing was told Greenwood went home, followed by his partner, armed himself with a knife and started causing damage to pictures.

After the victim said ‘stab me then’ in a confrontation with him, he started knifing her in front of two children.

The victim suffered several wounds and had to have nine stitches.

Greenwood, of Brownhill Avenue, Burnley, had admitted wounding on January 8.

Silvia Dacre, prosecuting, said the defendant and victim had known each other for many years, had been in a relationship for three years, their families were close and Greenwood was his partner's son's godfather.

The defendant had a conviction for battery against the victim from last June.

On January 7, the victim and Greenwood had spent the night drinking heavily. In the attack Greenwood got a knife from the kitchen and stood over her stabbing her.

She was taken to hospital, where she was found to have wounds on her shoulder blade, arm, hand and fingers.

Miss Dacre added the victim had not wanted the case to proceed.

She wished to have a friendship with Greenwood, but had no intention of carrying on a relationship.

The defendant had convictions for threats to kill and threatening to destroy property.

Philip Holden, for Greenwood, said he had had no intention of harming his partner when he got the knife and there had been some degree of goading on her part.
