AWARDS celebrating the ‘best of Burnley’s community’ have been announced as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The ‘Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Awards, Burnley’ will be held on Thursday, June 28 at the Mechanics Theatre.

Organisers claim the ‘ceremony will celebrate the people of Burnley and what makes them and the town so special’.

Organisers are asking for nominations those who go out of their way, day in and day out, to make a difference in their community, and for the town and its people.

People can be nominated in the following categories: young person involved in a uniformed organisation; young person making a contribution to their community; community champion; good relations; business with community links; contribution to sport, and The Mayor of Burnley’s special award.

Coun Peter Doyle, who sits on the organising committee said: “We are delighted to be hosting this unique event in Burnley, to celebrate the Jubilee.

“It is a perfect opportunity to celebrate both our country and our borough, and the people in it who make it such a special place.

“We want as many people as possible to come forward and nominate the King or Queen of their neighbourhood, or community hero to see them crowned a star.”

All shortlisted entrants will be automatically invited to the awards night.

There will be light refreshments, entertainment and of course the awards themselves.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday May 2 at 5pm.
