ONE of the area’s biggest charity events is gearing up to raise thousands for good causes again this year.

The Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle will hold the seventh annual Great Fundraising walk in May.

The event, which has raised £60,000 in the past six years, is again hoping to raise record amounts for local causes.

The walk aims to encourage members of the community to select a charity or worthwhile cause and to raise money for that charity by getting friends to sponsor them.

A circular route of approximately seven miles starts and finishes at Junction 7 Business Park, Clayton-le-Moors, opposite the entrance to the Dunkenhalgh hotel. Walking at a steady pace the route takes approximately three hours to complete, following the banks of the Leeds Liverpool canal and later a disused railway track.

This year’s event is on Sunday May 13 and starts between 9.30am and 10am. The registration fee is £5 per person but accompanied children under 12 walk free. For more information visit www.rotarycharity walk.org.uk
