HISTORIC Towneley Hall was in the pink as Race for Life geared up for their 2012 outing in Burnley.

Mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers have been urged to step forward to take part in the Cancer Research UK spectacular in the Towneley grounds on Sunday, May 20.

And the hall was bathed in a pink hue to kickstart the fundraising drive.

More than 1,400 braved the rain to take part in the 2011 event – pledging more than £60,000 for the cause.

And promoters are hopeful this record can be topped as athletes and amateurs line up shoulder-to-shoulder for the 5km run.

This year, their target is 1,700 entrants, who could hopefully raised around £87,000 for vital research.

People taking part can run, jog or saunter around the course.

Imogen Johnson, Cancer Research UK’s Burnley events manager, said: “It’s all of us versus cancer and we need ladies to join the fight as soon as possible. Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.

“Most women are able to walk 5km in an hour while chatting and having fun.

“The really startling fact is that in the same period of time, around four people in the north west will have been diagnosed with cancer.”
