Blackburn salon owner 'scared raiders will return’

WORRIED Suzanne Fish at her Room 4 shop WORRIED Suzanne Fish at her Room 4 shop

A SALON owner who has been burgled three times recently says more needs to be done to protect businesses from crime.

Suzanne Fish’s Room 4 hairdressers in Strawberry Bank, Blackburn, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning.

She was one of 13 victims of an axe-wielding raider who repeatedly struck over 25 days in the run-up to Christmas 2010.

Nobody was ever charged with that crime spree and now Miss Fish said she is ‘scared’ criminals could be watching the salon late at night when staff are working late shifts.

She said: “The salon shut at 10pm on Thursday. It must have taken a lot of effort to smash a hole through the toughened glass.

"It makes me think whoever was responsible could have been watching and waiting for people to leave. I’m really scared.

She said: “Everything that the police said we should do after the burglaries last year, we have done. Yet we’ve suffered another burglary.

“We are in a recession and there is only so much we can spend on security. This is not helping.

“When we’ve asked about CCTV, the police have said they don’t have the funding. But neither do we.

“How many more times is this going to happen before something is done. The attitude seems to be that we should be more vigilant.

“But I’ve got 16 years experience and have run the salon for eight years. We don’t have cash left on the premises and have installed an alarm. It is so frustrating and we don’t know who to turn to for help.”

A tool was used to force open drawers as the burglar searched for items. Nothing was taken. Forensic teams are examining evidence.

Sgt Sue Bushell said the incident is under investigation and is being treated as a isolated crime.

She said: “There was a spike in December 2010 in Strawberry Bank and then a recent spike in burglaries in nearby Whalley Range. We are responding to this.”

Sgt Bushell encouraged Miss Fish to attend Thursday’s meeting of the Whalley Range Business Forum which is open to residents, businesses, councillors and police in the area to discuss ways of working together to cut crime.

Well Well Well... we now have someone other than Asian asking for more to be done to protect the small businesses from a crime spree by adding more CCTV! I wonder if we will see all those racists posts now??

Well anyway I hope more is done to protect people like Suzanne Fish who are only trying to earn a living in these tough times. More and more people are turning to crime and something needs to be done sharpish to put a stop to it!

cctv is not really the magic bullet that prevents all crime. a good alarm system that makes lots of noise is better. crims know about and can see CCTV cameras. they just cover thier faces making cctv virtually useless. with a hairdressers i would say take valuables home with you. a pain i know but necessary. empathy with burgled people, i've been burgled also.

if it isn't like fort knox you will be robbed, is it right or fair, nooo.
It is, however, the reality of the world we now have to cope with. Close, move or cough up for better security.

you cannot conceive how, when a woman is burgled, how it affects her emotionally..
an handbag is a small thing, isn't it?
have a rummage through hers, see how you get on..

cheer up, chicken, I say..

given that the article states, a spike in burglaries 2010, and now another spate of similar crimes..
has anyone spoken to the burglar of those days?
or did he just get 2 years, and is out now?
am thinking that he more than turned over a new leaf, he shifted his patch.

the law, as it stands, is a complete farce..
am not allowed to shoot, maim or kill any burglar,
the Police advised me to remove my Claymore mines..
and, not only that, the Sarin-B nerve agent spray..

Burglars have rights, they tell me.
Stuff and nonsense, I say.

Suzanne may I suggest a couple of systems for you.
1- ATD monitored alarm systems they provide 24 hour protection
2- Or a DIY kit you can buy on the internet called a IP spy cam once installed it works of motion activation and will send you a message to your phone / email to inform you that someone or something has activated the camera you can view live images from your camera via your p/c or smart phone at any time.
