Snow and ice have caused difficult driving conditions this evening.

A coach veered off the road close to Pendle Road, Sabden, at around 7pm.

The B and N Coaches vehicle ended up on an embankment.

Another car was on its roof as six inches of snow and hazardous driving conditions resulted in several small accidents in the area.

Highways gritters were requested by traffic police.

Drivers skidding on ice also caused three accidents on the A642 St Mary’s Way in Rossendale.

Police were advising motorists to slow down between Bacup Road and the A646 Rossendale Road between the Rossendale Valley and Burnley after several drivers lost control. Salt spreading was taking place around 6pm.

Around 7.45pm there were reports of worsening conditions on the A671 Burnley Road between Yorkshire Street and New Road with traffic affected through Bacup and Burnley.

Ice and snow in Lammack Road close to Shear Brow and Revidge Road also caused hazardous driving conditions.

Vehicles were getting stuck on the hill close to St Mary’s College with traffic queuing in surrounding areas.

Two accidents in Pendle Road, Chatburn,also affected traffic. Police closed the road and advised drivers to avoid the area.

There were also reports of icy conditions making Bury Lane in Turton, near Darwen, impassable.
