ARSONISTS are being blamed for two separate fires which left an industrial unit and car damaged within half an hour of each other.

Watch manager Steve Harrison said two crews from Darwen were called to a fire in the town's Cotton Hall Street at around 3.35am on Saturday.

They discovered 10 plastic industrial bins were alight.

The crews took an hour to control the fire which had spread to an industrial unit on the street causing damage to a window and cladding.

And Mr Harrison said the "suspicious" fire was being linked to a car fire which occurred just 300 yards away in Robin Bank Road.

He said: "Both fires are being treated as suspicious and suspect they are linked.

"The fire in Cotton Hall Street came half an hour after the one on Robin Bank Road where a front and back bumper of a car had been set on fire."

Darwen police have launched an investigation into the fires.

Witnesses should call them on 01254 701777.
