PARENTS at a new Blackburn school are causing massive queues and huge tailbacks at key school times.

Motorists travelling near to Pleckgate High School Mathematics and Computing College, in Pleckgate Road, Blackburn, have been left struggling as parents picking up and dropping off their children clog up the road.

Pleckgate High School Mathematics and Computing College, Blackburn, moved into its new building, which was created under Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Building Schools for the Future scheme, over the summer.

It opened to pupils earlier this month.

But since the opening, residents have said they have experienced problems.

Headteacher Robin Campbell said he sympathised with residents and will be writing to parents to ask that their children walk to school if they live nearby.

He said: "I sympathise with our residents. We are doing everything we can to improve the situation.

“We have a number of staff on duty outside the school everyday to manage the safe exit of our children but we need parents to help in this.

“We are writing to parents to ask them to encourage their children to walk if they live nearby, which the majority do and also to respect the rights of residents.

"The construction of the second phase of the building work has contributed slightly to the build up of traffic and also with it being a new term and a new building more parents than usual have been dropping off their children.

"I am anticipating things will improve as everything settles down and people get used to the new school but it requires co-operation from parents to ensure that the health and safety of all children is not compromised.”
