AROUND 100 jobs are up for grabs at one of Burnley's biggest employers.

Window company VEKA has launched a major recruiting drive to fill 100 positions over the next 12 months.

It follows the take over of Bowater Building Products based in the West Midlands for an ‘eight-figure sum’ in June.

The combined business, which will have 400 staff and a turnover of about £80million, will be one of the largest window systems companies in the UK.

It will transfer some of its operations to its headquarters in Billington Road, Burnley.

Some parts of the expanding operation, including the VEKA Composite Door System, will be integrated into the existing Bowater door operation.

The transfer will start with the warehousing and distribution departments, which move to Burnley from the start of next year, followed by window profile production in the latter part of 2012.

As a result the company is now starting the first phase of recruitment for all levels of warehouse and distribution roles.

VEKA managing director Dave Jones said: “This is a very exciting time for VEKA and for Burnley with new job opportunities being created in the town and also hopefully welcoming some new people into the area in the future.”

As well as applications from the local area, VEKA also hopes to relocate employees from the firm in Sutton Coldfield.

VEKA has arranged two relocation days in September for present Bowater workers who are interested in transferring to Burnley.

Further recruitment will then take place on an ongoing basis throughout 2012.
