A MAJOR resurfacing scheme is set to see sections of the M65 shut from next week in a £4million scheme.

Damaged parts of the motorway near Accrington, as well as between Burnley and Brierfield, are set to be repaired.

Both lanes will be closed between junction 10 and 12 from 7pm to 5am from Monday, September 12, for two weeks.

And 1.5 miles of the motorway will be resurfaced between junctions seven and eight in a six-week scheme beginning on Saturday, September 10.

Highways Agency contractors will also be working along the motorway around the clock with lane closures put in place.

Peter Gee, from Highways Agency, said: “This is routine, if important, maintenance to ensure drivers in East Lancashire continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

“The resurfacing work in particular will remedy deterioration of the carriageway and reduce incidents requiring unplanned repairs which can cause inconvenience for motorway users.

“When planning the scheme we have worked hard to minimise disruption during the day, when the motorway is busiest. We will always have a full carriageway open in one direction and two lanes running in the other. At all other times at least one lane will be running in each direction.

“We are also very conscious that people live near Junction 7 at Dunkenhalgh Park and we are working hard to advise them of the works and to minimise construction noise.”

Lancashire County Council said the upcoming works will be advertised on the motorway ahead of time and diversions will be clearly signposted while the resurfacing takes place.
