A HIP group of old-aged pensioners have been busting some moves to raise awareness about the potentially devastating effects of a stroke.

The pensioners, led by 69-year-old Shirley Wareing, are performing their version of the iconic 70s hit YMCA for schools and businesses in Blackburn with Darwen.

They decided to raise awareness about strokes after one of the group lost a relative as a result of the condition.

And they have filmed the song FAST, which was penned by the Awareness Project Team to highlight early warning signs of the illness, which will be uploaded onto video sharing site YouTube.

Mrs Wareing, from Blackburn, said: “If you can respond to a stroke within the first hour you have a much better chance of preventing a major stroke which can have devastating consequences.

“We felt writing our own song would be a fun way of helping to get that message across.”
