DARWEN Leisure Centre will receive more than £220,000 in funding over the next 12 months.
An executive board meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Council was told the facility would receive the amount of council and PCT re:fresh money.
Darwen councillor Roy Davies asked Coun Damian Talbot, executive member for leisure and culture, for a breakdown of the amount of re:fresh money going to each of the borough’s leisure facilities.
The scheme has reduced health inequalities by encouraging adult participation in sport.
Coun Talbot said that participation by non-white ethnic groups had more than doubled from 11 per cent to 25 per cent, by women from 13 per cent to 17 per cent and by disabled people from seven to 16 per cent.
Only Waves will receive more funding than Darwen, with £228,500 earmarked for the water fun centre, £175,000 for Shadsworth Leisure Centre, £127,000 for Daisyfield and £98,500 for Audley Sports and Community Centre.
