RESIDENTS are fighting a pub’s bid for an early-hours live music licence.

Council bosses have received objections to the plan for the Lord Raglan Hotel in Kings Road, Blackburn.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has received 11 letters opposing the proposals from the Daniel Thwaites-owned pub as well as a 16-signature petition.

The application seeks to allow live music from 10am to 2am on Fridays to Sundays, and 10am to midnight on Mondays to Thursdays.

The licence would also include Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve for live music from 10am to 2am.

Residents fear that if the council’s licensing sub-committee give the go-ahead at the meeting tomorrow, anti-social behaviour will increase, noise from pub revellers and taxis will become a nuisance and the area will be blighted by litter.

Lesley Lomax, of Kings Road, Blackburn, said: “All local residents will be disturbed until the music is switched off at the said hours.

"As customers leave the pub there will be further disturbance from taxis arriving and leaving.

“There is also a school across the road from the pub which is attended by local children in that area.

They will be disturbed by the music till the early hours of the morning, which will not be acceptable for their well being, as tiredness affects their learning abilities.”

Jane Lincoln, of Livesey Branch Road, said: “I have previously had severe problems with this pub causing a disturbance during karaoke nights at the weekend which have prevented our household from getting to sleep until late into the night.

"Granting the pub an extended license for live music will only cause the noise to increase.”

Patricia Whalley, of Livesey Branch Road, said: “We would like to object to this application, not to be kill joys, but we like to go to bed before midnight, and it is bad enough on Kings Road on weekends with noisy so and so’s going home with no consideration for anyone.”
