GARDEN centre bosses will ask for greater concessions if a music festival returns to Burnley’s Towneley Park next year.

Staff at Towneley Garden Centre said they closed early as the one-day festival, headlined by The Saturdays, got underway.

The garden centre secured a stand to sell picnic blankets within the official festival grounds – but only at the 11th hour.

Assistant manager Alan Lee said: “We closed over an hour early and it really was not even worth opening. It was that quiet.

“Normally on a Saturday, with the weather the way it was, we would be very busy. But it was dead.”

If the festival is held next year, Mr Lee said the centre would seek to have a much greater presence in the main arena.

Vehicle access to the garden centre, at the back of Towneley Park, was restricted during the event.
