A BLACKBURN businessman who got behind the wheel while banned has been jailed.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Asif Jogee, 19, had been given a suspended term of detention in October 2009 for dangerous driving.

He had also been ordered off the road for two years.

But, on May 21, he was caught driving his brother’s car and, when stopped, gave false details.

Jogee, of Alder Street, Blackburn, admitted driving whilst disqualified and police obstruction, in breach of the suspended term, and had been committed for sentence by Hyndburn magistrates.

He was sent to a young offenders’ institution for 20 weeks.

Sarah Statham, prosecuting, said police were driving towards Black-burn and saw a vehicle doing a manoeuvre they did not consider appropriate.

The defendant was pulled over and gave incorrect details.

The prosecution said Jogee had been convicted of dangerous driving after he chased another vehicle from Whalley Range, Blackburn, to Witton Park, because his passenger was intent on attacking someone in the other car.

Kevin Preston, defending, said Jogee had been foolish.

On every other level, he appeared hard-working.

He had his own business and a stable family life, but had put all that in jeopardy.
