FUR COATS & FRENCH KNICKERS

It’s already taken Britain by storm and now this theatre extravaganza, performed by 16 of the world’s most beautiful showgirls (who just happen to be men!), is heading to The Sands Centre, Carlisle.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok attracts capacity audiences all over the country with their unique entertainment which has become an art form in its own right. This spectacular new production for 2011 promises to be the most ambitious yet. From West End musical to Hollywood blockbuster to the latest chart hits, The Lady Boys of Bangkok deliver in this fantastic fun night which should not be missed.

Newsquest Northwest has teamed up with The Sands Centre to promote their great competition to our readers. Enter now for your chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to see the show on Saturday, September 3 at 7.30pm at The Sands Centre, Carlisle.

Combining the heady spice of Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife with the glamorous show girl appeal of Las Vegas, the show is performed by a cast of 16 male Thai nationals, stunningly beautiful representatives of the ‘Third Sex’ (Kathoey). The tour’s vast wardrobe includes more than 300 designer-inspired, hand-sewn costumes, ranging from glamorous to exotic, casual summer wear to fantastic feathers and even from the historical to the hysterical.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok attract a diverse and loyal following and executive producer Carol Gandey believes there are many reasons: “Our audiences, irrespective of their age or background, expect an evening of pure entertainment. They are looking for something with a genuine feel good factor. Our reputation is established on glamour and fun and everything, from the painstakingly immaculate make-up to the glittering array of costumes, from the show-stopping choreography to the saucy but never crude comedy, is a vital element in the sheer effervescence and style of the performance.”

However, it is the artistes themselves who provide the essential element distinguishing this show from any other and their dedication to their art is total. As Lady Boys they pursue a feminine lifestyle which is part of Thailand’s rich cultural heritage. It is a concept that is extremely difficult for the western mind to fully appreciate.

Under the artistic direction of Phillip Gandey, The Lady Boys of Bangkok made their UK debut in 1998 at the alternative Edinburgh Fringe, the world’s largest performing arts festival. They are now that event’s top selling show and were once again the No.1 Fringe seller in 2010, breaking all records. The Edinburgh production is performed in the Sabai Pavilion, a lavishly tented structure designed to create the style and intimacy of a cabaret revue, which also tours the country providing The Lady Boys of Bangkok with their own top class and unique venue for seasons lasting several weeks.

The Lady Boys of Bangkok commences at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 3. Tickets cost £20 and are available from The Sands Centre Box Office on 01228 625222 or online at www.thesandscentre.co.uk .Booking fees are excluded.
