DARWEN School of Kung Fu are looking to arrange a Chinese New Year celebration after receiving funding for a ceremonial dragon.
Organisers of Crown Paints Community Awards have come forward with £372.85 to pay for the dragon, which has been shipped over from Shanghai in China, and will be moving using poles in dancing sequences.
Ray Heeks, of the kung fu school, said: “The dragon has always remained out of our grasp because of funding even though we trained with the Manchester Dragon team for a number of years prior to 2002.”
As well as consulting with the town’s Chinese community about New Year celebrations, Mr Heeks hopes that the dragon will be used during the Darwen Gala procession on Saturday, August 20.
