AN ACCRINGTON firm has closed down after nearly 50 years in business.

Sureframe windows at Oxford Works, off Hyndburn Road has closed its doors and eight members of staff have lost their jobs.

Administrators have been appointed to liquidate the firm’s assets, as the Oxford Street UPVC and conservatory showroom was closed up.

Suppliers and customers have been sent letters to inform them that outstanding bills, and customer deposits, will be handled as part of the process.

Manchester based Insolvency firm Lines Henry said they were in the process of placing the company in liquidation.

Administrator Neil Henry said the firm was sad to bring their proud history to a close, but that they had been finding there was not enough business to stay afloat.

He said: “It is a real shame after all these years that such a long established business has to close.

"It is particularly sad for those people who have lost their jobs.

“However, we believe no members of the public will lose money.

"We are examining the details and will make sure as far as possible that members of the public are not affected.

“Sureframe’s reputation has seen them remain a well respected business in the Accrington area but unfortunately the amount of work available will not allow them to continue”.

Ward councillor Allah Dad said: “It is a real shock to hear this and a blow to the area, quite frankly.

"I am amazed they are in this position as I hear often of people using their services.

"They were a strong company when I came to Accrington in the eighties, and they stayed that way until now.”

The company’s website, which is still active, lists testimonials from “46 years of happy customers”.

Hyndburn council’s deputy leader Clare Pritchard said: “We have been very badly affected by the recession in Hyndburn.

"It is especially sad to hear of such a long established firm going under.

"The people who have lost their jobs must be devastated and our hearts go out to them.”
