HYNDBURN GPs have elected seven colleagues on to a new Hyndburn GP Consortium.

The board has been formed ahead of the Government’s pending NHS reforms, which will hand more of the NHS budget to GPs.

The doctors will be joined on the board by representatives from Hyndburn Council and Lancashire County Council, patient representatives and a public health expert.

Dr Murthy Motupalli from the Blackburn Road Surgery in Accrington was appointed as chairman of the consortium, which is currently acting in shadow form.

He said: “Our priorities are improving the quality of services, providing community and home based services and in particular, we want to improve mental health services in Hyndburn.”

The other GPs elected were Dr Gladstone Bello from Kusum Medical Centre, Dr Fiona Ford from Richmond Medical Centre, Dr Susan Hancock from the Cabin Surgery, Dr Paramundayil Joseph from Dill Hall Surgery, Dr Richard Robinson from Peel House Medical Centre and Dr Anil Tyagi from Great Harwood Medical Group.
