A TEENAGER who had a passion for farming was taken on his final journey by tractor today.

Hundreds of mourners crowded into a village church to remember popular 14-year-old Daniel Robinson who died after collapsing in the street.

Family, friends and school pals paid an emotional tribute to the teenager during the service at All Hallows’ Church in Mitton.

Earlier, mourners saw Daniel’s coffin taken to the church on a trailer pulled by a green John Deere tractor.

Bowland High School pupil Daniel, who had dreams of becoming a farmer, died on May 25, two days after collapsing in the street from stomach pains.

Daniel’s mum, Joanne Johnson, told mourners: “Dan was very popular and very well-liked.

“He will leave a huge hole in many hearts.”

She said Daniel, from Clitheroe, was confident and hard-working, with a passion for agriculture. He hoped to one day own a farm.

The teenager had a ‘cheeky smile that could melt hearts’, she said.

She added: “I hope Dan will be an inspiration to his friends. Remember his sense of humour and banter.”

Stephen Robinson, Daniel’s dad, said: “I am overwhelmed with the number of people who have come. I am chuffed to bits for Dan.”

He then read WH Auden’s Funeral Blues, a poem which includes the line: “I thought that love would last for ever. I was wrong.”

Family and friends, along with scores of pupils from Bowland High School, filed into the church to the strains of Daniel by Elton John.

There were also representatives from Clitheroe Rugby Union Club, where Daniel played, and West Bradford and Gisburn Auction Mart, where he worked.

Many people in the church were forced to stand as all seats were taken.

Reverend Gill Mack said that people of every age were in the congregation, a testament to Daniel’s popularity.

She said: “It is good to see so many of you here. And of course, none of us should be here, but we are.”

She added: “Daniel will be sadly missed but greatly remembered.”

After the service, a version of Danny Boy was played while Daniel’s coffin was carried out of the church to be laid to rest.

The teenager collapsed in Wellgate, Clitheroe, and was transferred to Royal Blackburn Hospital for an emergency operation on his gut and bowel.

However, he contracted septicaemia and died two days later.

Daniel also leaves step-dad Mark, 12-year-old sister Natalie, and step-sisters Hollie, 24, and Aimee Johnson, 22.
