CAMPAIGNERS have pledged to continue talks after the 464 bus service through Rossendale received a temporary lifeline.

Some passengers said plans to scrap late evening journeys on the Rochdale to Accrington route via Bacup, Rawtenstall and Haslingden would cost them their jobs.

Council bosses in Rossendale have secured funding for a temporary replacement half-hour service, which runs from tomorrow for nine weeks.

Council leader Coun Alyson Barnes said: “Temporary support of the 464 late evening journeys for this period will give the council time to evaluate any potential options for continuation of the evening service, which they will put to Lancashire County Council.

“We are extremely concerned about the effects the removal of the evening service will have on those passengers reliant on the service, the wider community and the local economy.”
