A PUBLIC meeting will be held to discuss proposals to lease out a historic building.

Mercer House in Clayton-le-Moors was originally bequeathed to the council for use as a museum.

It has recently been restored at a cost of £88,000 and Hyndburn Council, as a trustee, needs to hold a public consultation to change its use.

The council’s preferred option is to lease the building, built in 1802 by Thomas Hargreaves, to Mercer 1842, a not for profit company, for 25 years.

The group wants to bring it into use by the community, including renting out parts of the building to local groups.

The meeting takes place on Monday, from 7pm, at Mercer House.
