Blackburn Rovers owners Venky’s are believed to have identified a £6million mansion 13 miles from Ewood Park as their dream English home.

The Rao family are said to be interested in the house in Harwood, Bolton, which is owned by former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville.

Rovers fans said any interest in such a major purchase in the North West was a good sign of Venky’s commitment to the club.

The house sits on a 90-acre estate, and boasts seven-bedrooms, four reception rooms, six bathrooms, a cinema room, indoor swimming pool, gym, games room and lift over four floors.

It has landscaped gardens, equestrian land and private parking.

The website of estate agent Knight Frank describes the property as having ‘panoramic southerly views’, adding: “Constructed on the site of a Lancastrian farmstead Alexander House has been designed to take advantage of its location.

“Alexander House is arguably the most exceptional modern country estate in the north west.

“With accommodation arranged over four floors there is an immediate sense of arrival into a three-storey atrium dining hall – setting the tone for what is a stunning family home.

“The reception rooms on the upper ground floor sweep around a spectacular circular staircase and atrium with an almost full width sitting room and a high specification living kitchen.

“Outside, there are professionally-landscaped gardens, integral garaging together with an attractive two-bedroom detached cottage that has been modernised to an exacting standard and ideal for staff or further ancillary accommodation.”

A bid, believed to be from Venky’s, has been submitted for the property to Knight Frank, but the firm said it could not comment until any sale was completed.

A Venky’s spokesman said the group was looking at property but declined to comment further.

Blackburn Rovers fan and Lancashire Telegraph columnist John Myles, said he believed any purchase would be welcomed by the ‘vast majority’ of Rovers fans.

He said: “It’s got to be a good sign because you read it’s a problem that they are based in India and there is little cohesion at the club at the moment.

“If they had a more visible presence that would help and at least it would be a base so they could put more time in at Ewood Park and stay over.

"That’s got to be good news because we need them to be hands on rather than rely on other people, as perhaps they have done too much this season.

"And it's not a bad little pad for a weekend's retreat!”

The site in Tottington Road is being sold after Neville won planning permission for his eco-bunker home which has been likened to the ‘teletubbies’ children’s show set.

Artist impressions show the futuristic £8m development built into the side of the West Pennine Moors within Neville’s current estate – meaning the Venky’s could have the former United defender and his wife Emma as neighbours.

The couple spent three years designing it and included a wind turbine which would also power the Venky’s prospective new pad.

Neville, described as a committed environmentalist, bought the entire 18th Century farming hamlet, off Tottington Road, five years ago and created the mansion which Venky’s are understood to be interested in.
